That question is rhetorical….there are surely some cooties in there.
The more I look at this chair, the happier I am that I only spent $30 on it. Actually, I shouldn’t say that….it’s really solid, but pretty icky. Say what you will about the charm of old furniture or antiques, I hazard to say that part of the charm isn’t seeing the ghostly imprint of the former owner imbedded in the upholstery.
Let’s approach this like CSI Asheville….(turning on blue light that shows unmentionable body remnants)

From the shadow stains, we can tell that the person who used to sit in this chair:
a) Nodded off to the left while watching tv or reading
b) Used chair to absorb excessive hair dye
c) Clinched the armrests during family arguments or scary movies
d) Used armrests as napkins after eating drippy ribs
Either way, a mere slipcover is not going to do. I sort of like the look of a slipcovered wing chair with the legs exposed,

but I’m not sure I can sit in this chair merely slipcovered knowing that’s underneath.
So, here are some inspiration shots from design*sponge (proof that wingbacks aren’t just snoozy boring library chairs):

So, I think I’m going to slipcover it in white cotton which is ridiculous when you consider that after Starnes, this chair is going to end up in my house. I share my house with this:

This is not one of those fancy dogs that doesn’t shed and doesn’t occasionally jump on things. But, we’ll just get a good start on grossing up the chair for the next person who buys it for, say, $50 (we’ll factor in inflation) at some other auction down the road.
