Art for Antonio

I don’t have all the details yet, but Starnes and I have something VERY exciting in the works and it involves this handsome fellow:

A couple of years ago, my friends Meg and Alisa met Mr. Antonio at a Lee Walker Heights Community Center photography class that Meg (a rock star photographer) was teaching.  Anyone who has ever met Antonio knows that it doesn’t take long for him to win your heart and for the past four years or so, Meg and Alisa (a rock star graphic designer) have been additional parents to this young man.

Antonio has been able to mature immeasurably due to the love and care of these two and now, the goal is to get him into a school that will allow him to thrive.  After much thought, the three have decided that the best place for Antonio is boarding school.

(It sort of tells you something about what Antonio has had to deal with growing up that the thing that sticks with him most about the school he has visited is that the lockers don’t have locks and nothing gets stolen.  This is utterly incomprehensible to him which is utterly sad to me.)

So, the last time I looked, boarding school wasn’t free.

This is where my weekend home in Montford comes in.

Meg, Alisa and I are calling on some of Asheville’s fabulous artists to have an art showing/sale at the house before it gets sold (for three times its asking price….I’m just putting that out there).  Part of the sale goes back to the artist and part will go to Antonio’s scholarship fund.

Here are the generous souls who have agreed to take part along with a sneak peek of their talents (in-depth profiles to come!):

Genie Maples

Simone Wilson

Molly Sieburg Courcelle

and Meg Reilley herself

I haven’t set a date yet, but I will be sure to let you know when I do.  So start saving your money and clearing your walls - you’ve got some art to buy!
