(For this feature, I referenced the interview with Genie on www.wanderingeducators.com)

Red Rises
Well-known Asheville artist, Genie Maples, has her kids to thank for finding her true calling as an artist.
Having believed all along that she really had no artistic ability, Genie found herself rinsing out trays of paint that her children had mixed for an at-home art project. Looking at the colors swirling together as they ran down the drain, she had an epiphany of sorts and was drawn to explore painting.
As we now know, she found that was her true calling.

Late Bounty
Genie says that the inspiration for her paintings comes mostly from within….she is not necessarily drawn to represent external scenes or subjects. Simply put, she says that she draws “inspiration from putting one color against another.”

She Wants
I love this quote from Genie…a good lesson for everyone:
“…sometimes life whispers. It’s a good thing to listen, and it’s an even better thing to answer emphatically.”
Indeed!
