It’s time for me to unveil the new floorplan….pre-approved by my contractor and realtor.
A couple of priorities to bring this bungalow into the 21st century include better storage and a true master suite. This house is shaping up to be a great family home with room for a downstairs master bedroom and three, count that, three upstairs rooms and a full bath. That might not sounds super palatial from a suburban standpoint, but for an in-town, Montford bungalow, it’s nothing to sneeze at….or nothing at which to sneeze (in case any of my former students are reading).
Let’s start with “Before”:

Now for “After”:

We’re opening up the cramped kitchen and turning the backside of the house into the family living area with family room/dining room/kitchen areas that flow pretty seamlessly into each other and a more separate living area in the front of the house.
The initial goal was to add a powder room so folks wouldn’t have to go through the master bedroom to get to the downstairs bath, but for space reasons, we’re compromising by adding a separate door into the downstairs bath that is accessible through the front living room. Not perfect , but this way you don’t have to kick your undies under the bed when the guests come over…just get them out of the bathroom.
We’re going to add some French doors in the back room out to a small landing that will lead you to the backporch (soon to be covered with a pergola roof) which is also accessible from the kitchen (for all your al fresco dining needs).

So, that’s the downstairs….the upstairs really isn’t changing aside from gutting the bathroom and making the upstairs closets larger. Here are the three bedrooms upstairs:

Pistachio and maroon…a veritable color combo. abomination!

This one features a terrific athletic ball wallpaper border - unfortunately, not visible in this pic.

Back bedroom with a nice view to the backyard.

There’s a tub tucked back there…just around the corner.
Plenty of room on the second floor to keep your whippersnappers up and out of the way when they grow tiresome. Word on the street is they are ripping out carpets today, so I should have some in process pics soon!
Have a good weekend!
